|2019-06-12.||Jan Mast||Sciensano||Sciensano develops, validates and implements advanced methodologies for the characterization of nanoparticles in a regulatory context, focusing on the definition of nanomaterials (NM), the physicochemical characterization for risk assessment and the analysis of nanoparticles in complex (food) matrices. Sciensano can offer services based on TEM methodologies (TEM, HAADF-STEM, EDX, HRTEM, SAED), complemented with sample preparation and screening methods including Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), zeta potential, particle tracking analysis and (SP-) ICP-MS.
Sciensano hosts the Belgian reference laboratory for the analysis of NM in food, is a validated supplier for EC-JRC (Geel) for (reference) NM characterization, and participates to CEN and ISO standardization initiatives. It contributes to EFSA and EC expert working groups on nanomaterial characterization. Sciensano is involved in (inter)national research projects such as IMEKOFOODS; to improve the metrology of the characterization of NM
