The following declaration must be made by the user when registering an interest in an SRT/SNT

  • I (the user) understand that by registering an interest in this SRT/SNT that the connections data (First Name, Family Name, Institute Name, Country and Email address) I provide will be accessible to users of the MSU website as follows.
    • First Name and Family Name will be visible against the specific SRT/SNT
    • First Name, Family Name, Institute Name, Country and Email address will be accessible to download in an excel file by any other users who have registered an interest. This will only be possible during the lifetime of the connections tool for specific call.
  • The connections data is only required so that consortia can be formed during the preparation phase of proposals for Stage 2 of an EMPIR Call. It will not be used for any marketing purposes.
  • EURAMET (data controller) will keep the connections data for 5 years after the end of the EMPIR programme (end of programme defined as last payment made) as required by the European Commission (EC).

2019-06-13. Pawel Niewczas University of Strathclyde The Advanced Sensors Team in the Institute for Energy and Environment at Strathclyde, Glasgow, specialises in photonic and fibre-optic sensing for power and energy industries. We originally developed a method for remote measurement of voltage and ac current using hybrid piezoelectric and fibre Bragg grating (FBG) sensors that are now being commercialised by Synaptec. This sensing technology enables secure distributed electrical measurements using optical fibre that is routinely integrated with the power network, enabling novel power system control, protection and diagnostic functions to be implemented. As part of this SRT, we would be keen to propose and develop a fibre-optic dc current sensor based on this technology - an area that has been given insufficient attention thus far. Yet, if a successful dc current sensor could be developed, the benefits of low-cost, secure, distributed metering along the dc network will become possible, addressing the key objectives of this potential JRP.
